Why I Research...

Updated: Jun 13, 2022

By Alma Herndon

Each year as we reflect on family reunions, gatherings over the holidays or the solemn occasions when a loved one has passed, we are reminded, “why I do research.” In our next program we will view a short Ancestry video, “Walking with my Enslaved Ancestor." Then, we will begin with Thomas and William, our new Board members, who will share their WHY.

Our member spotlight will be Alma Herndon, BGRG's newest member, who lives in Maryland. Alma will share her story of her North Carolina family, why she is so passionate of doing family research, and why documenting the history and stories of loved ones is important. You'll learn of the talents Alma's Dad passed on to her that have influenced her research approach.

No matter your level of expertise, there are many ways to access your family genealogy. What are the variety of ways this information is being captured by our members? What can we learn from each other?
